The importance of gas safety checks

The importance of gas safety checks

All gas appliances, portable or permanent, must be checked regularly to ensure the safety of everyone within your premises.

Every gas safety check must be carried out by a gas-safe engineer who is qualified and trained to work in that specific area of gas.

What does a gas safety check involve?

Gas safety checks or CP17s are conducted annually by a trained professional on all gas appliances within a commercial property. This includes boilers, pipework, ovens, gas metres, chimneys, and other fixtures that burn or exhaust gas.

With each inspection, your engineer will check each gas appliance is working and burning correctly, check safety devices are in good working order, and ensure the overall installation of the appliance is safe and suitable for your commercial property.

Do I need a gas safety check?

Any commercial building with a gas supply that is rented or used for business requires a CP17. Therefore it is the responsibility of landlords, housing associations, colleges, boarding schools, hotels, and local authorities to ensure the checks are carried out and obtain a gas safety certificate.

These documents are issued following physical tests and inspections which certify all gas appliances and visibly accessible pipework in a commercial building are safe.

How important is a gas safety certificate?

All commercial property owners or landlords have a legal responsibility for the health and safety of people in their properties.

Certification must be renewed annually. Failure to comply with annual gas safety checks and inspections could result in a substantial fine and/or imprisonment due to negligence and putting lives at risk.

How can we help?

The Enright Environmental team are all highly qualified gas-safe engineers, who will thoroughly inspect the functionality of all gas appliances to ensure they are meeting industry standards and are fit for use in your commercial building.

Once the inspection is complete and the property has successfully passed the required tests you will receive a gas safety certificate which records the results of the tests on the appliances within your property.

Our fully qualified and accredited team will ensure you receive the highest standards of commercial gas safety inspections and gas safety checks. These accreditations include Gas Safe Register, CIBSE, SafeContractor, and CHAS.
