Hydram Engineering – Warm air unit replacement
About the client:
Established in 1977, Hydram Sheet Metalwork is one of the largest sheet metal fabrication companies in Europe.
Hydram offers a vast range of engineering services including, tube bending, laser cutting, CNC punching, wet painting, fabrication, and powder coating across the UK.
Supplying metal products, components, and precision sheet metal fabrications from its County Durham site, the company is proud to work closely with customers in the defence, renewable, industrial, rail and transportation sectors.
Project background:
Hydram Engineering recently expanded its operations by acquiring the unit adjacent to its existing facility in Chilton. The company therefore required an effective and energy-efficient heating solution for the new unit to ensure optimal working conditions for staff and equipment during the colder months.
The new unit was without an appropriate heating system, having only a 40+-year-old Reznor unit heater. This heater wasn’t big enough to meet the needs of the facility and was beyond repair which posed a challenge for maintaining a comfortable working environment.
Our client needed a quick and efficient solution to ensure seamless operations in the expanded space.
Project solution:
After an in-depth assessment of Hydram Engineering’s new unit, we proposed to remove the 40+-year-old Reznor heater and install a new and highly efficient Winterwarm unit heater. Additionally, we suggested the installation of 2 new destratification fans at a high level to encourage optimum heat circulation around the building and reduce overall energy usage.
The new Winterwarm unit heater has its own local time and temperature controls, allowing the client to be in full control of the building’s climate all year round.
Project result:
The installation of the new Winterwam unit heater proved to be a huge success. The Hydram team working from the new unit now enjoy consistent and comfortable temperatures at all times of the year.
The modulating burner in the Winterwarm has resulted in energy savings as the team is now able to adjust the heating output based on the actual heating demand. This installation helped Hydram Engineering seamlessly integrate the new building into its operations while ensuring a productive and comfortable environment.
