About the client
After carefully assessing the church’s requirements, we recommended the installation of Potterton Commercial Sirius Two FS 90kW floor standing boilers to replace the existing. Our proposal also included the installation of a new flue system through a chimney stack to replace the existing flue dilution system which was not up to current standards, new Grundfos circulation pumps to replace the ageing existing pumps, new zone valves, a new Mikrofill automatic pressurisation unit and a new Boilermag magnetic filter (click here to read the news feature about this installation on the Boilermag website).
Once our proposal was accepted, the first task we carried out was checking the integrity of the chimney stack we intended to utilise for the new flue system by attempting to install a test flue liner. During this test, we established that there was a substantial blockage in the chimney stack which we were able to clear after significant time and effort from our on-site engineers. Once the new flue liner was installed, we carried out a power flush to the central heating and underfloor heating circuits and then stripped the boiler room virtually clean, effectively starting from scratch as the vast majority of the existing pipework in the boiler room was all in need of replacing because it was all of a substantial age and very untidy. Some of the original heating pipework that remains within the church itself is made from cast iron, adding to the charm of the old building.
We then proceeded to install the two new boilers and all other associated equipment. The installation was completed within a period of four weeks during the summer season, meaning that the downtime effect for the client was minimal.
